DISEASES AND PROBLEMS

updated 22 December 2011

Do not forget to remove fine nets in case of snow. I use pea netting to protect sprouts. 2 years ago the snow ripped my net and the pidgeons ate all the sprout foliage before lunch time!!!

If you spray these thistle heads with hairspray they will not blow onto your neighbours plot!

better still get rid of them
Beware of mice, caused a lot of damage to my beetroot and fond of sweetcorn, will eat most rootcrops.
I have been catching some in mouse traps baited with beetroot cubes.

Plant ( or sow) on new moon, harvest on full moon!

Next New Moon on  Christmas Eve
Next Full moon on the 9th January

Beware of rabbits, deer, caterpillars and pidgeons.

See caterpillar damage on brussels sprouts.

Lot of small white flys/ butterflies on sprouts this year
I have seen some fine mesh nets on some plots, seems a good way to prevent these pests, any other good methods please let me know
